LSX Shootout 2011 (April 15/16)

Great Time Had By Chev's Crew and Customers at the 2011 Shootout!!

In typical manner of the welcoming and friendly nature of Chev's staff and customers, about a dozen cars set off in convoy from Chev’s on Friday afternoon heading up to Heathcote drag strip for the 2011 LSX Shootout.  Chev’s faithful old HQ tonner and trailer were loaded up with all the essentials for the two days racing, tools, tyres and rims, plus BBQ, food, drink etc..  The trip up was fairly uneventful except for Shaun trying to scare the uninitiated by revving his car in the Domain tunnel. LOL

When we got there everybody pitched in setting up the shed Chev had reserved and Chev and Big Rob started preparing all the cars for dragging eg. putting drag tyres on the cars of people who had brought them up, dropping tyre pressures etc.. We all went out and had a few runs, then had an absolutely awesome meal of various types of seafood supplied and cooked on the BBQ by tmob (AKA Tommy the Fisherman).  After the tea break a few more runs were had, then we all gathered around the fire and had a great time chatting etc, finally drifting off to bed in the wee hours of the morning.

Tea - Yum!!

In the morning the BBQ was fired into action again, providing a cooked brekky for everyone, then it was back into action again for more test and tune, followed by the competition part of the day.  A few more of Chev’s customers who couldn't make it in the Friday because they had to work arrived on Saturday and well into the competition phase quite a few of Chev’s customers were still in the running.

Huge congratulations to one of Chev's customers Vern (Big V) who won the True Street trophy – awesome result!

Even greater kudos to him for winning it in a manual car where consistency is much harder to achieve than in an automatic.  For those who aren’t aware, these competitions are DYO (Dial Your Own (time)) where you nominate a time before each run.  Basically each run the winner is whichever of the two cars gets closest to the nominated time.  However, if you go under the nominated time you are eliminated, so there is much to consider before each run. Nominate a time which is too low and you will be eliminated by the car you are racing getting closer to their nominated time but nominate a time which is too high and go quicker and you will be eliminated – a definite balancing act! DYO evolved so it’s not just the person who spends the most money making their car go fast who wins.

Congratulations to the first-timers who all had a ball and also to those who achieved PBs (personal bests) up there eg. Jeff in his VX Clubby who did a 12.26 @ 111.47mph and Andrew M who cracked the 120mph barrier in his VE SS.

At the end a few people stayed on and a few went their own way but 8 cars headed off in convoy to Kilmore pub where we all had a meal (thank you Chev!!) then headed off home.  All in all a most enjoyable two days where everybody worked together and had fun!!  Awesome!!  This is far from a cliquey little group of precious little petrol heads.  It’s just a group of people who enjoy their cars getting together and having fun and anybody and everybody who is a Chev’s customer is most welcome to join in.

Just another little benefit of being a Chev’s customer!!
